Our events are the most successful way for us to connect with women and give them a morning or day of empowerment. These days are designed for women to come along and get professionally fitted for bras. We know that most women have never been professionally fitted for a bra and this is so important for everyone, but more importantly for these women. Do you know that 85% of women are wearing the wrong bra. The women we support and empower more often or not are wearing no bra at all or if they are wearing a bra it is very worse for wear. At one of our events we had the most beautiful women who was literally wearing a bra constructed of a few pieces of fabric and string. This is intolerable. Once these ladies are fitted correctly their whole posture changes. Their body language goes from dark to light and they have the biggest smile on their faces. This is priceless.
We are currently hosting our events on the Gold Coast, Ipswich, Sydney with Brisbane and Melbourne starting mid way through 2018.
We have been so grateful for the enormous support and commitment from the passionate and beautiful Independent Bra Sales Consultants from the Intimo Diamond team who are part of Intimo Lingerie. We have these beautiful women supporting us throughout the country. Their compassion, knowledge and genuine care is invaluable and their contribution plays a huge part in the success of our events.
The benefit of being allowed into the inner sanctum of these ladies, is that they open up and let their guard down is this gives us a window into their lives but more importantly allows us to find out their needs and connect them to support services.
We see this as one of the most important roles apart from empowering them with dignity with bras, underwear and toiletries. The biggest gap in the support services that we see is the lack of these women actually assessing services. The services are there, but they do not utilize them. There are many reasons for this. Fear, mistrust, ignorance, or if they are struggling with trauma and have mental health issues, they do not have the ability to help themselves as they are too fragile.
One of the scenarios that was brought to light at the Homeless Connect Expo this year was that a lot of women are not accessing their free BreastScreen test. This was alarming. We met a lady in her 80’s who had recently had a double mastectomy and had not been given any follow up care, support or recommendations of what bras she could wear, let alone her free bra from Berlei. This raised huge alarm bells with us. So we contacted Queensland Health and BreastScreen Queensland and after consultation agreed that together with collaboration we could facilitate these women getting to have their BreastScreens done. We have connected with NSW Health and their BreastScreening program and will be finalizing a program for our events to support women.
We also have an incredible group of women who donate their time and skills to give these women some much needed pampering. This apart from their bras is a highlight for them. Haircuts and massages services have huge queues. We are going to be needing a lot more on board this year. See more information on that below if you would like to assist us.
In 2018 we plan to expand our collaboration with other services to ensure that women whether homeless, domestic violence victims or disenfranchised get connected to support services and when we secure the funds for a van, we will actually be able to get them there.
Homeless Connect Expo
Community centers are ideal locations as it means women in those local communities can access our services. We have been very grateful to be able to use the Women’s Space @ Labrador and we shall be expanding our locations for 2018 as our events have got so big. We plan to hold smaller more intimate ones across the regions so that more women can access our events.
We have attended the Homeless Connect Expo twice on the Gold Coast and this year we plan to attend Brisbane, Logan and Sydney. This is a day that is specifically created to for Homeless individuals. It is a day where they can come and access support services, get free clothing, food, haircuts, massages etc.
It is a really good opportunity for us to connect with women and hear what their needs are as well as give them some dignity and respect with bras, sanitary items, and underwear.
One of our biggest focus areas for 2018 is going to be connecting and assisting more women connected to support services. We are well aware that there are some outstanding services in our communities but they like most charities are under resourced and do not have the means or time to give women more support.
This is where we come in. We are happy to go to a support service and run an event from their location. There are a lot of women that do not have the capacity to travel or have mental health issues that cause them more stress if they have to leave the safe environment where they are living. For us the most important criteria is their well being.
We do not just donate a collection of items to services for two reasons. Firstly most of them just do not have the capacity to store items, but secondly we are well aware of charities that promote donating all sorts of goods and items but there is no actual support. This is not how we will ever operate. We will always go out of our way to connect with the women directly so that we can give them all the attention and support they require. This is vital to us.
So if you are a support service and would us to host an event day at your offices or center then just email us and we can happily create an event for you. firstname.lastname@example.org
Domestic Violence Victims
Our priority with domestic violence victims is first and foremost their well being and their safety. If a domestic violence shelter has someone arrive with nothing we will happily go and support the woman with all the necessary items required to give her some dignity and respect. All the shelters need to do is contact us on 0450 544 757 or email us email@example.com
Sadly we have many mature age citizens who are trying to survive on a very small pension and the cost of a bra, underwear and more especially incontinent products is just unaffordable. This is where we can assist.
How Can You Help?
Without the support of compassionate community members we would not be able to empower these women. We need a large support system of hairdressers, massage therapist, beauty therapists, yoga instructors. The impact of getting one of these services has to be seen to be believed.
So if you have a service that you believe can help support and empower women in your community and you have a morning or a day free where you can volunteer once a month or as often as you can . If you would like to be a part of one of these incredible mornings then call us on 0450 544 757 or email us firstname.lastname@example.org
